Startup Europe Week is the largest multi-event of its kind for startups in Europe and the third edition will be held in March 2018. Its goal is to inform entrepreneurs of the support and resources available at a city and regional level. For The Hague, World Startup Factory is a local SEW co-organizer. At our special Afterwork, we will provide some exclusive startup insights and showcase what The Hague has to offer as a big startup hub.

For The Hague’s local event, we invited Diederik de Stoppelaar, a successful director of multinational companies who once turned to become a startup entrepreneur, to share his know-how and lessons learned. Anna Menenti, Program Manager Impact Economy at the City of The Hague, and Iris Ferreni (Startup in Residence Zuid-Holland) will speak about what the region has to offer as a startup hub.

About the Speaker:

Diederik de Stoppelaar’s international career spans more than 35 years in various management positions. He worked at Philips Lighting for 21 years. Following responsibilities were as Chief Marketing Officer with Thorn Lighting and Regional Commercial Director with Zumtobel. For Lutron he was Vice President for Sales in EMEA and for GE Lighting he worked as Global General Manager for the Vertical Outdoor. Finally, he spent 3,5 years as Secretary-General of LightingEurope in Brussels and served as a member of the Executive Board of Eucolight, the association of the European lighting recycling industry. Since April 2017 Diederik divides his time between different consulting roles ranging from being a member of the Advisory Board of Global Factories, helping startups to overcome the difficult first hurdles, personal coaching and setting up a charity activity. About Startup Europe Week:
Startup Europe Week, promoted by the European Commission and Startup Europe, aims to showcase the support available to entrepreneurs on a city and regional level. Regional diversity and local policy-making still play a big role in shaping European startups, from helping entrepreneurs to incorporate a company, to providing grants or taxes breaks. For this reason, taking a local perspective is crucial to supporting entrepreneurs and startups in Europe.

In 2017, #SEW17 saw over 280 co-organisers organize hundreds of events in over 40 countries across Europe. The week was launched in Brussels with the Vice President of the European Commission, and as a grassroots movement achieved over 18 million impressions on social media and more than 100 thousand participants across all events.
